Two If By Sea

The ancient boat wasn't that great of a discovery, not compared to an airship for example -- but it was still a powered boat, something that could run under its own steam instead of relying on chocobo energy. Assuming it worked, of course, which the Al Bhed had done their very best to make happen.

Still, before they were going to put it to any real use, they needed to give it a shakedown cruise. For that, they needed two people: one a capable Al Bhed mechanic who could monitor the machines, fix what could be fixed, and swim the heck to safety if something went wrong; the other one tough and strong, able to handle heavy lifting or serious work, and preferably able to hang out underwater even without a respirator.

Pretty easy choice, right?

One of those two was hanging out not on the boat, but in the water next to it, floating lazily on his back and just enjoying the warm ocean while he waited for his partner to show.

"Jecht? Jeeecht!" Rikku wiped her hands on a towel, stuffing it into her back pocket as she went looking for the big oaf. They were supposed to be heading out soon, the weather was perfect for it! Where did he go?

It was here she finally heard the slight sounds of water splashing and she looked over the rail. She sighed in exasperation and put her hands to her hips. "Jecht! Get back on the boat, would ya? We're supposed to be going in less than an hour, y'know!"

Jecht let out a lazy laugh, sticking one hand up to wave to the girl. "I'm ready to go. What's the rush? You need me to do something?"

This was gonna be a fun trip. With a stretch, he tugged his legs down underwater, kicking them to tread as he looked up her way.

"Uh, yeah... get on the boat?" Rikku held her hands up in a shrug before dropping them to her hips. "Unless you wanna be left behind."

Such a lazy bum.

"Hey, you said we need to leave in less than an hour! Sounds like I got plenty of time to enjoy!"

Jecht dropped his head below the water with a little splash, but before she could get a real complaint worked up, he launched himself out of it, water spattering everywhere as he arced up in one dramatic flip to land on the deck. You can take a player out of the blitzball stadium, but you can't take the blitzball out of a player!
